upday News
Task:
Ideation, wireframing and design of a News Aggregator website
Achievements:
Created a fully functional news-aggregator website under the name “upday News” from ideation through to live deployment.
Enabled customizable feeds and filters, so users can quickly get news tailored to their interests without information overload.
Ensured fast load times, cross-browser/device compatibility, and stable performance making the site reliably accessible on various devices.
Combined short summaries + in-depth articles + multimedia content.
Phase 1: User Needs
To scale the platform’s reach beyond the app, the design strategy focused on three core pillars: instantaneous synchronization, automated brevity, and vetted authority.
By expanding into a dedicated web ecosystem, the project eliminated the friction of fragmented news-chasing, delivering real-time match updates alongside concise, high-impact summaries for time-pressed enthusiasts.
This cross-platform approach ensured that every piece of data remained rigorously verified, providing a credible, "single-source-of-truth" experience that was instrumental in driving the platform's rapid expansion to 600,000 users in just three months.
Phase 2: How might we?
The proposed solution is a news aggregator website that centralizes coverage across multiple topics, from politics and business to sports, culture, and technology. It delivers real-time updates, breaking news alerts, and curated stories tailored to user interests. By combining concise summaries with in-depth articles, multimedia highlights, and expert insights, the platform helps informed readers, casual browsers, and professionals stay updated without information overload.
With customizable filters, a clean dashboard layout, and features such as dark mode, personalized homepages, and integrated search, the website ensures users can quickly access the content most relevant to them. Mobile-responsive design and seamless navigation enhance accessibility across devices, while bookmarking and share options encourage engagement. The result is a modern, user-centered platform that makes staying informed both efficient and enjoyable.
The prototype of the esports news aggregator app was developed with a focus on core functionalities: real-time score tracking, personalized news feeds, and intuitive navigation.
A minimal but clean interface was designed to highlight live match results while allowing users to filter news by game, team, or tournament. Interactive elements such as push notifications for match updates and a “highlights” section were implemented to test engagement.
The prototype was built using rapid prototyping tools to validate the concept, gather early user feedback, and refine the user experience before scaling to a fully functional product.
Phase 3: Competitive research
Phase 4: lo-fi prototype
The design of the MVP began immediately after completing the research phase, once all necessary information and insights had been gathered. The primary focus was to create a functional and intuitive experience for users while addressing the key requirements identified during research.
The homepage was designed to prominently feature breaking news and provide easy access to different news categories, ensuring that users could quickly find the content most relevant to them. Each article page was structured to present news in a clear and engaging manner, with attention to readability, multimedia integration, and related content suggestions.
Additionally, a category overview was developed to allow users to explore topics in depth, offering an organized and seamless way to navigate through the various sections of the website. This initial design laid the foundation for a user-centered, accessible, and engaging news platform.
Phase 5: Final implementation
